The Groovy Greens Story

Lorna made her home in Springtown, Bucks County, PA in 2007, part of her decision to move to the village was that she loved the idea of living in a small vibrant, walkable community.   In an effort to see her vision become reality, she has tried (admittedly, unsuccessfully) to start other community focused ventures in the village.  She loves growing food and by 2020 had been farming at Liberty Gardens in Coopersburg for five years. There she learned from the best in the business how to grow great salad greens. She is a chemistry major and has a masters in environmental science but more recently has completed many courses on general vegetable growing and specialist courses on soil and soil microbiology. She is especially interested in how soil health relates to nutrition, and both human and planetary health. She taught organic gardening at Northampton Community College for 9 years.  Now with Groovy Greens she is bringing all her passions together - growing food for local people, organic agriculture and sustainability.

Becoming a real farmer

Dave was born and bred in the Springtown area, and has a degree in Landscape Design.  Growing is in Dave’s blood, like his father, he has always loved nurturing plants and animals (tropical fish in particular). He has been beautifying local properties through his Painted Earth Landscaping business for 27 years and has owned the property at 3235 Route 212 where Groovy Greens is located for 18 years.  Initially the property was mainly used as the Indigo Gardens garden center selling hard to find plants to locals. After that business closed, the greenhouse remained unused and was a source of sadness to Dave, he was determined to find a use for it and bring the property back to life.

In 2019, Dave and Lorna were chatting and found they had many overlapping interests - one of which was that Dave had an empty greenhouse and really wanted it to be used and Lorna had ideas of using it to grow healthy greens for local people in an organic, sustainable manner.  A few months and a lot of work later - Groovy Greens, LLC of Springtown, PA, became a reality!
